That's a fair point Mango. I guess it would come down to the Morals & ethics of the person involved. Would they be prepared to lie & say they were raped just for the convenience of having an abortion here instead of traveling abroad.. & No, no hypocrisy from me here at least (cant speak for everyone obviously), my view would hold the same regardless of what country i was born in..

@Jupiter you are painting some pretty broad strokes there with the assertion that everyone who is anti abortion is also an anti LGBQT religious nut.. yes they exist i do not deny it but i reckon more are just humanists. I for one am glad that my cell division was allowed to continue & i get too sit here and type this message..

Read my post again. I said that I suspected that MANY pro-lifers were anti LGBTQ and highly socially conservative in every way, not ALL. I do realize that there are those who are relatively liberal on many social issues who are against abortion.

For me personally, once that sperm burrows through & hits the nucleus of that egg & the cells divide for the first time, that is a new life for me.. Maybe the next Einstein or Da vinci, Van gogh or Mozart, Neil DeGrasse Tyson or Michio Kaku.. I could go on..

But again if you take that view why is it ok to abort in the case of rape. If you take the absolutist view that life begins at conception and that each conception could be Einstein etc then why make an excrption for rape? Are the children conceived during rape not potential Einsteins etc?

Yes, but in this case the Woman did not consciously choose to be impregnated or was too drunk to reasonably object. She has no obligation to carry that child to term.. I'm good with that, i'll vote for that amendment.. Not taking the pill/Not insisting that he wears a condom for twenty minutes gratification.. I have a problem with that..

Your opinions have no relevance to the people that every week 10-12 are going to the UK to have abortions.
You must have empathy for them.
When you start to talk about the value of the fertilized egg let's talk about how children are valued and treated in our society.

So basically your views really arise from moralistic judging of womens sexual behaviour. I have a problem with that sort of thinking. Lets be honest; that sort of judgemental and moralistic thinking taken further was responsible for many of Irelands atrocities against women: Magdalen laundries, no rape within marriage. I am sure you dont support either but your view of women as irresponsible, feckless in their sexuality certainly is on towards supporting them.

Mango, I don't think you can have any form of abortion debate with someone who has practically has no idea on why women/girls/couples choose to have an abortion. Someone who thinks it's solely a contraceptive/rape option is truly not worth your time and effort. I wouldn't bother.
