I've long been aware that Hollywood is far from squeaky clean when it comes to morals and fair play, and that hungry young actresses and actors are often taken advantage of by powerful power brokers in Tinseltown. The "casting couch" isn't called this for nothing. And it's been going on for decades, probably as far back as a century. Starlets regularly having to do sexual favours in return for launching their careers.
But the emerging Harvey Weinstein scandal, where serious allegations of sexual misconduct by one of the most powerful and influential producers in Hollywood has blown the lid open on the sheer sordid goings on in the US entertainment industry. Weinstein abused dozens of young women in return for favours - basically advancing their careers.
But it seems that Weinstein is the tip of the iceberg - that he is just the fall guy du jour and that Hollywood and the media hope if he goes down for his vile behaviour, it will all go away. Now there are allegations that child stars have been routinely sexually abused by powerful Hollywood figures which is vile beyond belief. No wonder so many child actors end up drug addicts and die young.
Also, there is complete hypocrisy where A list actors, actresses and directors are now trying to distance themselves from Weinstein by publicly stating that either they didn't know what was going on or did know but were too "afraid" to speak up until now. Please!
The silence of others connected to Hollywood is deafening.
Have you heard of this scandal and what do you think? Do you think the Hollywood cesspit will be purged or will it be business as usual?
