Lotto Odds

The lords of Lotto acknowledge that the odds of a jackpot win are 10.7 million to one, but that if you buy a second ticket, the odds are slashed to only 5.7 million to one, this is absolute nonsense, but I can't explain why. Any one out there cute with figures to back up my claim.?

RTE have a show on on Monday about people who won the loto

A guy was on it last night who won it in the early 90s or late 80s
He had previously written a book called How to win the Loto
Basically it was done with maths and different combinations inorder to get 5 numbers

He formed a group of 10 people who invested IR£30 a week (each line at the tome cost 50p) and after 5 weeks they won IR£2.5million

He did it again later.

The loto has since changed the amount of balls/numbers which has made it much harder to do this

Should be right. If there are 10.7miion combinations of 6 numbers and you have two tickets (for the same draw) then you've a 1 in 5 million chance. The odds of winning ANY prize would depend on how many numbers are in common on the two lines.

With Lottoland I won €10.90 on the German Lotto this week. The jackpot averages about 8m euros. Its only 1 euro a line and there are 2 draws a week. A cheap alternative to our own lotto but the snag is that none of the money goes to good causes.

Thomas if you get money from it, then the money is going to a good cause. You can sleep with a clear conscience.

do you reckon people give loved ones money if they win the lotto, or do they just shag off with it all?

The first thing I would do is pay everyone's bills and things, get health insurance for my mum. Buy her the council house she rents, and do it up a bit.

The strange thing is, I never actually play the lotto.
