Really? You don’t think that makes it boring? It’s what I like about golf, very few total dominators over the year.
It does and it doesn't. When Stephen Hendry was dominating the game, that was boring, because of his amazing consistency. He Michael Schumacherd the fun out of it. But you do need someone, a Ronnie O'Sullivan, a Steve Davis, a "one to beat" that's what made the famous black ball final so alluring, it was "the champion" versus "a contender".
Now a days it just feels like no one is likely to win, it just depends on form that day. Snooker needs someone to dominate for a year or two to wake everybody back up.
Haven’t been too close to snooker lately, is it form on the day or similar talents?
Judd Trump is about the most exciting player, he plays exhibition snooker constantly, but is vulnerable to rookie errors when it come to more boring shots, his break offs are usually poor, saftey play, break building usually goes wrong etc, and he has to pull miracle shots out of the bag, which he does regularly.
Like Jimmy White he is clearly an untamed, natural talent, but he is vulnerable to being out played on the day by "on form match players", who can reliably finish a frame without losing position and making life hard for themselves.
Ding Junhui plays like a word champion, makes long shots to get in, century break, frame over. Rarely fucks up due to poor decision making.
Kyren Wilson is kind of an exciting new player, he's up and coming, but is already defeating great players, it'll be fun to see if he becomes a dominating figure in the game for a few years.
