Trans Pride

I hope trans people in Ireland feel happier and more included in society after their first pride.

As a gay man, I'm sorry that they don't feel supported in pride, I always thought that the T in LGBT represents trans and the rainbow flag is meant to represent everyone.

The only thing I didn't like about the articles was the pink washing by the corporates, a lot of LGBT people work in big companies and I think it's amazing that they now have pro LGBT policies considering 10 years ago it could be a career liability to be an open member of LGBT community.

I think the LGBT community is stronger together.

I was a bit surprised when i first heard this myself.. The longer i thought on it though, the more sense it made.. It's for the most part OK to be Gay in Ireland now.. Going to Work/School or just living life in general for a trans person in Ireland probably needs some, ironing out.. McDonalds fries coming in Rainbow coloured plastic coated holders may dilute the message..

I have no problem with there being separate LGBT events and Trans events.

I dont think anyone said they felt unsupported by the main Dublin Pride though many did feel it was far too corporate and commercial.

The trans pride yesterday welcomed many Cis allies and rightly so.

I find it strange that some LGB People are critical of the trans pride parade and that the opening post suggests that this was about division.

Trans people still suffer from appalling ignorance, misunderstanding, ignorance and hate, I for one will challenge that ignorance head on.

Ideally, Pride should represent the trans community and I would have thought that was the case at previous Prides but if the transgender community feel excluded from the main Pride event then I suppose they have every right to hold their own separate event.

But I see this as an unfortunate fracturing of the LGBT "community."

A gay male friend of mine argued to me a few months ago that there is no LGBT community as such any more. He believes as LGB people are becoming more integrated into mainstream society the sense of community has diminished.

Indeed. Quite a lot of ignorance lately about trans children.

I think this is quite strange taking the view of "fracturing". I wouldnt see it that way at all. Lots of Cis LGB people were there at the trans pride parade the other day.

wasnt that not the whole point all this time to be integrated into the wider community and treated as "normal"

Depends on what side of the fence you are sitting on.

Concerned is fine within reason.

Actively siding with transphobes and wishing to force children to live as the gender they were assigned at birth is not.

Depends on how you define transphobes but moving on. There are plenty of things we can't do as children that we can do as adults. Now I support giving children more rights and responsibilities but you either except children(teens) are mature and capable of making such decisions or not

Not sure what thats about. Concerns around trans children are fine. Denying trans children exist and forcing trans children to live in the gender/sex they were assigned at birth is quite dangerous in my view.

And giving them hormones isn't?
