Stress Management Support In Dublin?

Hi Gaire,

Long time no post

I was just wondering if anyone knows of any stress management services in Dublin that are free or available to someone with a medical card?

The reason I ask is because my mother has a very very high level of stress over even the smallest of things.

She goes from 1 to 10 in a matter of seconds over every little thing.

She has had a tough life, and only a few years ago ended up in hospital with heart issues

I am worried for her health, but I dont know what we can do for her.

Any info would be hugely appreciated

Hi Jaysus,

Have you heard of the mental health advocacy organisation Shine or its affillitated Basin Club? They do great work on things like stress management and life coping skills. It's HSE/National lottery funded so it is a free service.

Shine offers 1:1 counselling and the Basin Club is a drop-in centre in North inner city Dublin that offers group activities such as WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Programme), Taking Control workshops, stress management, money management etc. The do daily group activities such as art, creative writing, crocheting, language classes, relaxation/meditation, computer classes, day trips out to events and museums etc. and also function just a general social drop in service where there is always a friendly ear. Anyone with a mental health issue can join.

It helped me immensely in my recovery from severe anxiety and alcoholism and I am still very much involved with the Basin Club and do part-tine admin work for them.

PM me if interested.
