I think it is like this in every group of people there will always be someone of the people who are not nice and not respectful and will cause a lot of hate and so it is not in one core of a group of people it is in general so there will always be nice in some of us and some will be awful and want to be nasty. That is life and the way the world works.

What Shav said.. And, also, who gets to pick what race, religion or creed they are born into.. There must be a reason the Traveller suicide rate is about 8x the national average..

You didn’t really ask a question. In general though, I don’t see why the link should be a reason to discriminate against the entire population, which a large number of people seem to do.

I'm just wandering would peoples opinions change if they had them living next door or within a area of them. I have a couple experience with them in the passed. I have gone back to repair very bad work that elderly people have got caught to pay out for by well dressed travellers. Some of these jobs would only cost 20 to 50 euro to fix and end of paying hundreds for. Then the travellers in the halting sites that have tried to brake into a number of houses and cars. Now there is roughly 6 halting sister that are in limerick and I have a bad experience with every one weather its doing work for the council on there sites and there still trying to check the van out. So I can't help but to judge the majority of the them. I'm sure that most of the farmers in Ireland would judge them the same too Now its prob well over 60% that are bad eggs.

Very few people seem to apply the socio-economic factors that are in play within all sectors of society when drawing conclusions about a mass of 40k individuals. It would come as a surprise to no one that a largely poverty stricken, isolates, alienated, demonised, mass judged aspect of our collective nation may continue to be seen from afar and only as ‘an issue'.

A positive start to any discussion might be to consider us in the room, rather then speak of us as if we are not part of the discussion – and perhaps to rather then seek to create a dialogue over how to rationalise and propagate the judgement of an entire community of 40k people – to identify, contextually aware and positive methods and pathways to resolve any outstanding issues and concerns.

It was a factual article. I was looking for explanations.

The judiciary is an issue they are very old boy and look after their own and the whole system has a zero tolerance approach to certain crimes performed by certain classes of people and extreme leniency towards other classes and other types of crime .
Thus welfare recipients are demonized even though pensioners are the biggest chunk of the welfare budget and even though fraud is a tiny percentage theres a tv programme on it every week.
While tax fraud steals from all of us, there's never a tv programme on it and the bigger the tax evaded the less likely we are to here of them - they will never go to jail.
Why is that ?
If crime is the issue why are the biggest criminals in the country white collar and untouchable and why are crime gangs not off our streets and in jail?
But the issue isn't crime that's just a stick .

It seems to me that many people who rush to defend travellers and accuse the rest of us as bigoted have never really experienced their 'culture' first hand.
Up there in their ivory towers they're quick to condemn the rest of us as racist.
