For Your Comfort And Safety And Other Bullocks

Do you have example of when you felt someone was claiming something is for your good when all they do is try to paint their own agenda as being yours?

For instance when a bank tells you they cannot give you info on your own account so they hide their mistakes, but tell you it is to protect your data.
Or when the RTB moves from a €90 registration every 6 years to an annual €40 fee.
Or when Toblerone tries to justify why they trimmed 20% off their chocolate bars.

I was a very Picky eater as a child. A rather stern aunt gave me 'Steak' which tasted a bit funny.. Turns out it was liver. Wench.

The bank, any Institution, or Company can't refuse to give you any information they they have on file about a person baring the Garda. under the Freedom of Information Act

But they’ll make you work for that info, like having to write in, when they are happy to take the money on the phone after a few security questions.
They use and abuse the data protection excuse.

Reminds me of someone at the French embassy who told a couple that their visa request was denied.
When asked why, he looked down at them, and point at a legal extract and said “legally I am not allowed to provide a reason”.
I read the legal reference: it said that legally they are not required to provide a reason, which makes sense and is OK, but is not the same as not being allowed...

In plane, Stewart asked my neighbor to unrecline her seat while food was being served.
We were seating at the very back, with no seats behind us!

And she said nothing to the person in front who remained fully reclined from take-off to landing...

Really.
It shows how applying rules without understanding them leads to absolutism. And a lot of people are trained to apply rules without understanding them: so they end up making exceptions when they should not (because the perceive the rule as optional) and the end up applying it too stringently to the point of contradicting the spirit of the rule (because they perceive it as a power and status tool).

« VRT bands will increase from 12 to 20 to more accurately reflect, and charge for, pollution levels. »

Not to increase taxes: for accuracy
