New Normal V Old Ways

# 1 : Friday 22-5-2020 @ 18:03

Do anyone here, believe there'll be a New Normal after this Pandemic and do you think things will change in all areas of life or will we go back too our old ways?

We did after the Spanish Flu.
We will again.

But old ways are replaced every day with new ways... So technically...

It depends what you mean by our old ways because it sounds like you mean something specific but didn't say what it is, if you mean social distancing the truth is people can't keep that up indefinitely, we aren't evolved for that nor are we evolved to stay at home constantly, we are a social animal, it's how we learn and pass on knowledge (it's called extelligence) and it's why we form communities so this is essentially going against tens of thousands of years of evolution. As a species we need social interactions to keep us sane.

I mean, how we live and how we do things on this planet. Is our system, creating these events and is climate change creating extreme weather events. Too many of us, in one area and are we slowly killing ourselves with stress/work/life/debt etc?

Well yeah, part of the reason for the pandemic was over population, in the past that would have been contained to a village in the arsehole of nowhere and would have died out but now we are spreading like a virus ourselves and in the space of 24 hours can easily transport a pathogen from one side of the world to another so this isn't the last time this will happen

I think it will radically change many things we do such as work, education, socialising; many things about our towns and cities - less office blocks, less traffic, more online shopping causing a lot our smaller independent retailers to close

We need to reduce highly populated areas, like the major cities in our Country and spread these people to cities/towns with low populations. Reduce the cost of travelling by rail/bus, encourage business to move to these outer regions and become greener with these policies. Electric buses/trains, stop building new roads and improve existing roads. Electric vehicles, should be more affordable. Online business, was eventually going to take over existing retail outlets and it is happening quicker because of the Pandemic. We need a Green economy, a good health system and a complete overhaul of how we do things for the future.

I agree. Hopefully with more people working from home this could help, as people could be living anywhere in the country. That should also help to balance out house prices and rent. At the moment i could buy a 6 bedroom house down the country for the same price as a 2 bedroom apartment in dublin. Hopefully it will lead to a fairer balance.

Hopefully Nurses will get pay they deserve.

Rather than "heart felt thanks".

They are due to get a payrise of 2% in October. But it probably will be given back in taxes in the October Budget.
