Look the lad is looking to pay for a room, not to stay in a hostel. You seem to delight in finding fault when there is none to be found.
Willingness or ability to pay or not is not what is at stake here.
And there is nothing enjoyable in seeing someone without a roof.
But if we tell someone on the verge of being roofless/homeless, that charities that help the homeless are not something they should consider, then we are not helping them. Then we are only reproducing the stereotypes about homelessness.
There is nothing wrong with needing help to bridge the gap.
And if the only issue was that he did not want to stay in a hostel for long, then today would not be a hard deadline. From a guest house to a hostel for a week is not the end of the world, till he can secure a home-sharing while he waits to find longer-term accomodation.
