They started easing things here, reopening barbers, shops, etc..
New infections/death rate sky rocketed.
We're back in lock-down, bars, barbers etc closed again.

It seems the 'light at the end of the tunnel' was an oncoming train.

Been following up on the news over there. It's a bloody nightmare.

I don't know why they don't just ban any drinking outside of a licenced establishment or your home, basically no drinking on the streets full stop

It has long been illegal to drink in the street!
But the gardaĆ only have man power to enforce the latest regulations...

You can shut off licence, ban retail sales and not allow take away in pubs. That'd put a serious dent in their parties.

Off licenses were deemed an essential service

Were they explicitly listed, or simply assumed under the heading "Retail and wholesale sale of food, beverages and newspapers"?
( https://www.gov.ie/en/publication/625292-updated-list-of-essentia etc ...

It is a headline grabbing wording to suggest that the gvt explicitly singled-out off-license as essential...

Maybe the off-licenses should have been put in the list of "Businesses that can only offer emergency call-out or delivery services"...

Noone wears a mask in my canteen at work. Not even when they are queing. It's disgraceful. I'm the only one who wears one. The seperated tables inch closer and closer together each day and nothing is done about it. The staff gym is still open via the back door with no music or much talking going on to make the bosses think it is closed. The front door and windows are frosted glass so you can't see inside.

Surprised to hear canteens are open in some places. Canteen in my job has been closed since last March but free lunch packs have been provided for the staff that are on-site. I was working from home from March but back in the office again since October. Facemasks have to be worn all around the building except when sat at our desks.

Yeah they could close the canteen and provide take away but they would have to offer a suitable alternative. We don't have desks where we can sit and eat our breafast, lunch and dinner.
