Lockdown / Weight Up

# 1 : Sunday 26-7-2020 @ 10:37

So since the lockdown (and the steroids I was on after my stint in hospital) I put on some "COVID weight". It's not loads, basically I went from 63kg (10 stone) to 69kg (11 stone) and my face has got a little bit chubbier (but mostly I can cover that with my hair). It's not really something that would be noticeable to an outside observer since I'm 6 foot tall so can easily carry it but I notice it mainly because since I was 18 I've floated between 9 and 10 stone so an extra stone is really noticeable to me and being honest it annoys me a bit so the last few weeks I decided to do something about it.

I've used up all the carbs I had (two weeks of eating pasta but I hate the idea of wasting food so throwing it out wasn't an option) and I didn't buy any more carbs other than Special K for breakfast and my shopping yesterday was basically only veg, fish and some fruit so the plan is to eat healthy (obviously) and drop my calorie intake by at least a 1000 a day for a few months and hopefully get back to 9.5 stone. Luckily I'm not a big fan of anything sweet not even chocolate but I love salty stuff especially popcorn so I'll miss that a lot but I keep telling myself it's only for a couple of months until I get where I want and then I can eat it in moderation again so that's the plan.

So any of you put on weight since the lockdown? any of you making any plans to lose it? by the way any tips or low cal recipes are totally welcome.

Don't be disgusted with yourself, given the circumstances we have all had to put up with over the last few months only putting on 4kg is pretty good, if you look at it another way all you put on was 1kg every month that you had no real way to exercise properly. Did you find yourself eating more during the lockdown? I was snacking a lot more (mostly on popcorn and crisps) I think out of boredom

Ice cream, chocolate and latte/cappuccino's. I did a lot of physical work, should've burnt it off during the lockdown and will have to start all over again.

"Ice cream, chocolate and latte/cappuccino's"

I'm willing to bet that was the unholy trinity for a lot of people, physical work/exercise doesn't actually burn that many calories, 2000 of the calories you burn everyday is just what your body burns naturally keeping you alive (keeping your heart beating, maintaining your temperature, breathing, keeping your digestive tract going etc) and the other 500 is what you burn doing the basics like walking around, changing a light bulb or whatever. If you walked 10,000 steps a day for a week all you would lose is 1 pound (just under half a kg). A more effective way of losing weight is to reduce your calorie intake. The average man needs 2500 a day so if you reduce it to 2000 a day you would lose the same amount of weight per week as you would if you walked 10000 steps a day for that week

Take it easy there Lance, start off on small journeys and get a check up before you ride the ass off that bike. Just, don't wear the velcro gear professional cyclists wear and think of other road users.

I've been driving for 12 years now. Only too well aware of how lethal some cyclists are with their disregard for the laws of the road. I've had quite a few near misses. Most recently two Racers going around the inside lane of the roundabout before cutting across in front of me as i go to exit. Thankfully I'm a pretty cautious & patient driver.

No, havn't been on a bike in 20 years. Will have to start back very slowly.

Only 11 stone and 6 foot, sounds very light.

I go up and down a kilo all the time, I way findtfind the best way to control weight, is do 10,000 steps a day, work out at least 3 times a week for 45 minutes, don't buy any processed or pre made dinners.

Thomas rather kindly provided a soundclound button for me when i asked him nicely some time ago Sorted. Works the same as the youtube one, just copy the URL (not the embed code) and slap it between the brackets..

To most people my height it probably would be fine and like I said it's not really noticeable to an outside observer it's more just a personal thing, I tend to obsess about my weight at times and then television is full of people banging on about losing weight that they put on during lockdown so it's hard to avoid it when it's in your face 24/7

Before all this I was averaging 15k steps a day so putting on weight wasn't really an issue for me, like yourself I kinda yoyo'd between 9.5 and 10 stone but since getting sick I genuinely couldn't manage 10,000 steps every day. I needed to do some shopping yesterday and did almost 9k steps altogether but by the time I got home I was in bits with really bad leg cramps and totally out of breath from walking around wearing a mask that long so I think at most I'd have to limit myself to 5k a day until my health situation improves so I figure for the moment I'd be more successful losing it with the changes to my diet and cutting out carbs for a while
