Massive Explosion Destroys The Heart Of Beiruit

# 1 : Wednesday 5-8-2020 @ 01:29

As if the poor people of Beiruit, the capital of Lebanon haven’t endured enough after decades of violence and terrorism, a massive explosion believed to be triggered by a smaller explosion and fire in the port area of the city is thought to have killed hundreds, if not thousands, of people.

The effects of the blast were heard and felt as far away as Nicosia in Cyprus, 160 miles to the West.

Footage of the explosion, thought to be a third of the magnitude of the 1945 Hiroshima nuclear bomb blast, is truly shocking:

2750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate left laying around in a densley populated area for 6 years.

For reference, the Oklahoma bombing was 2 tonnes of the stuff.. Thoughts & prayers to the people of beirut.

Shows what damage a war can do, when corruption is rife and no Democracy for the people.

A weird takeaway I had from it was how close the explosions I've seen in various forms of media are to the real thing.

If the stuff was on a ship, impounded at a Dock for six years. It could well be a terrorist attack, we'll have to wait for investigations and will we ever know the truth?

I found it very interesting that Israel was one of the first countries to offer assistance. Guilt?

The world is changing and everyone is watching, especially lately, sometimes people do things just because they can. They offered help so why not just see it as that instead of implying they were in some way responsible? If the middle of Dublin blew up tomorrow and was in the same state as Beirut right now you can bet your ass Britain and Northern Ireland would be the first to offer assistance so should we call that "Guilt" too or should we just be thankful and accept the offer of help?

It doesn't matter where it comes from when you are completely in the gutter any offer of help is a gift that you shouldn't turn down.

I very much doubt it but, here is a hot take from a former member of the Knesset. Although I imagine not all Iraelis feel this way. One would hope anyway.
