Terraforming Of Mars: Countdown To Your Mars Holiday

# 1 : Thursday 22-4-2021 @ 14:33

Perseverance rover has created oxygen on Mars with a lot of Moxie ...
(Mars Oxygen In-Situ Resource Utilization Experiment)

It used atmospheric CO2.

Is this the first step of Terraforming? Or are we more than 2 generations away of this even starting?

Probably 3 or 4 generations away if ever.
Maybe someone like Elon Musk might get something very small running there sooner.

He has no problems, getting his rocket to launch and it is the landing that has him exploding prematurely.

Common problem at his age

No, not even close, see it doesn't matter if they can build a small machine that can create 1 litre if oxygen using CO2 or a big one that can create a billion litres because the simple fact is we don't have the technology to get it there in the first place. Separating oxygen from CO2 is a relatively simple process, what's not easy is getting the 1 ton worth of machinery, that will be required to do it on a large enough scale to support 15 to 20 humans, off the ground in the first place and we don't have the technology to do that efficiently right now.

Currently the only viable option available to us would be to transport it to a space station orbiting Earth bit by bit and build it up there and then transport it to Mars but then you have to build a spaceship for that too so it's not really that big an achievement, it's pretty much putting the cart before the horse and it's a big fucking horse too.

Should practice cleaning up our own atmosphere for half a century or so before wasting lots of dosh on a rock

Not as far away as you think Killer. Plasma engines are not far off now in development. They will drastically reduce travel times & lift ratios.

If they had any sense they would be putting the money into nanofiber research so they could build a space lift, it would cost a fortune at the start but the long term payouts would be worth it and would put us in a position where we actually could be a space faring species, anything else is just frog genetics

I'm sure that plan is already in the works.. Probably twenty years before we have the tech for that though. My biggest regret on my deathbed will not be all the lost loves, moments I could have done better or whatever random uncontrollable shit happened. It will be that I was born too early..

Funny, how this planet is dying and they are racing to get life on a dead planet.

Yep, they plan to rape this one to enrich themselves, then bugger off in their shiny colony ships and leave the rest of us to die.. Most sci-fi of the last 20 years has told us as much. World hunger could be sorted in the morning but, NASA, Space X, CERN, Lockheed et al get all the funding.

Interesting take on the subject .
How do you imagine that " world hunger " could be sorted out in a day ?
