The Foster Crossroads: Will Unionism Go Deeper Into Homophobia, Or Float

# 1 : Thursday 29-4-2021 @ 15:00

Officially Arlene lost on Brexit. But her abstaining on voting against the forbidding of anti-gay conversion "therapy" is her real downfall. (Do not count the not-double negative: it means she was against torturing the gays straight but could not say it)

The DUP is deeply deeply homophobic: Doubly Undoubtedly Penetrated by it.

But the unionist community, especially the younger generation, is not so. Not as much. Probably closer to Arlene's position of don't ask don't tell.

Which trend will win?
Is that the end of the DUP or a further radicalization?

They need to crawl, back into their cave and let Ireland progress.

Who said she lost on Brexit ?

You genuinely imagine that the young Unionist community aren't homophobic ?
Have you evidence to support your belief ?

The challenge to her leadership had been officially fed by her failure to prevent a GB/NI ses border.
That is the main reason that justified her losing her leadership.

As for the younger unionist community, I am not talking about the young DUP activist fed by brainless evangelist doctrines.

I am taking about the younger generation at large. Not DUP youth, but unionist youth.

It's not like the DUP membership is getting any younger, but even new DUP joiners are clearly less obsessed by religion or homosexuality.

As a party the DUP voted and urged their constituents to support Brexit .
Boris caused the issue of a GB/NI Sea Border not Foster .
Any talk of this being the cause of her being forced to stand aside is a smokescreen .
The DUP are vile, Poots ( tipped as the next leader ) is hardcore !!
Recently Foster acknowledged that in the North there was three types of people.
Unionists who identify as British.
Nationalists who identify as Irish and those who identify as Northern Irish.
She stated the only way forward was for all of us to live side by side in the North peacefully, this is why she was ousted !!

As to your notion about " Young DUP " being less homophobic ?
You threw in an opinion piece written in 2016 .
You can be assured that both Foster ( who abstained from the recent vote on conversion therapy ) and the majority of DUP politicians and voters are extremely homophobic !!
Feel free to share any links ( recent links ) to show otherwise or any recent links to highlight how these " young DUP " politicians etc have made changes with regards to the gross attitudes to the LGBTQ community here in the North ?

DUP politicians, whatever their age, are very likely religious extremists.
That's why I was not talking about them, but about new younger members in the DUP at your insistance, but originally about unionist youth at large.

The next elections will tell more than a dubious study from 2016.

And the reasons for her ousting are obviously bogus: the trigger is obvious too.
We will see if her slightly more moderate line was just an aberration, or if the leadership will regret their knee-jerk reaction.

Polls and elections will tell.

The vast majority of Unionist youths vote DUP !

As for Foster ?
She was and always will be a hardline Unionist .

Do you have any knowledge of grassroots, local DUP/Unionist politicians ?
Those who drive the back room political landscape here in the North ?
We are talking about men and women who despise Catholics and Nationalists .
Despise any move towards a progressive society that recognises any acceptance for the LGBTQ community, abortion, a total and outright inclusive society .
Why did you backtrack on your claim she was ousted over Brexit ?
As a party ( I stated this already ) they voted for Brexit .

" Regret their knee jerk reaction "?
No they won't !!

Poots will take leadership .
He's vile.
A backward thinking knuckle dragging creep who will fuel the hate being displayed on our streets in recent weeks .

You have yet to properly address ( backed by a study that you're now claiming is dubious ) that younger DUP politicians and supporters are somewhat more accepting of gays in the North .
I'll wait.

I did not backtrack: officially she was ousted on Brexit. Officially for being duped (ironically enough) by Boris.
But the other thing was her real downfall.
The official reason is bogus, but sounds credible.

How is that backtracking?

For the"evidence" you can wait, as I said, the elections and polls.
If you want another dubious source, only marginally more recent: https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2017/aug/04/northern-irish-un etc ...

None of that will convince you, quite rightly, as it does not support your world view. I don't expect you'll change your mind: I actually have s vested interest that you do not.

You might be too close to the issues to see the bigger picture. But me saying that is going to get your goat, so I won't even say it.
