Slurs At Work

'who owns all these homosexual teas?'

No - that comment is no reason to leave work - nor is it a reason to get upset....the only thing a comment like that calls for is a quip back at the boss...that's all.....

...as it happens I do find myself that my gay friends do tend to stock a broader range of teas than my straight ones - in fact it can be annoying when you call to their place and you can't get a f*cking cup of lyons tea..

relax about that comment pipdog is my advice to ya

If that is the worst u have to deal with in work then you are not doing too bad.
Think twice before making any kind of complaint about anyone,
oftentimes HR managers see someone who feels that they have rights as a problem to be solved ..
I was called Puff and spat at (among countless other things ) in work but when i insisted that the company deal with the perps guess what happened .....

He said he was thinking of leaving his job anyway, and not due to any bullying, he just thinks his boss is a wanker, - and that jus the last nail in the coffin for his job, which is fair enough. I hope he finds a job where no one talks!

He could become a Monk in a silent order - but he might start getting dirty looks when he goes for the Lapsang Souchong tea bags

Blkjumper - He said he was thinking of leaving his job anyway, and not due to any bullying, he just thinks his boss is a wanker
I would reckon that in this day and age, to most gay people a homophobic bully is a wanker and it’s a given that other srt8 people would consider them to be not very good at their job either.

No one can give a definite as to where humour stops and homophobia starts but what is certain is that if the same ‘joke’ comes up again and again, a manager is abusing their position.

In this case, some assume the fact that pigdog was not known as been gay means it was not personal. Someone who is not out but is suspected of being gay will be on the receiving end of such ‘jokes’ much more often than someone who is out because if it was personal, it would be about something other than you’re sexuality.

Well SI I refer to pipdogs posts... about what is manager knows about him, and the context of his comments…again.

I also refer you to your own posts about inferring things from abstract situations RE: maybe people suspected he was gay, ie - there is nothing about this.

Also I think your post is grossly offensive - why would you call him a pigdog when you know nothing about him??

Boss doesn't know I'm gay but I'll be telling him when I hand in my notice. By the way he also describes dodgy parts of Dublin as Knackernagua and thinks its funny.

I think quitting over something like that is really over reacting. Your sexuality should have no relevance in your workplace.

I'm gay, I work for a company with extremely homophobic people. Heck, today someone sarcastically told me that me and my manager would make a cute couple if we were gay. I just laughed them off, and turned the joke on them. If i felt the need to get my knickers in a twist about it, i would only have handed them serious ammunition to make my life miserable.

Take it easy. If your boss asks who owns the homosexual teas, tell him you're sure he was the one who bought them last week, make sure the rest of the office hears you, he'll laugh, you'll laugh, end of story.
