Gaire Meets

# 1 : Tuesday 18-9-2007 @ 13:26

What gives the average Gairean more pleasure, actually going to meet other Gaireans at the various meets, or all the pre arranging on the message boards and the inevitable post mortem?

Good point actually... I'm kinda new and havent been to a meet yet, but it seems that people get really enthused about the pre-planning - I always wonder how many people turn up... and how you identify the gaireans from the randomers....

I don't think much goes in to the Pre Planning!

There is usually an area reserved and someone will generally offer to meet newbies if they want to before hand.

At the end of the day it is just a piss-up with some randomers of the boards!

It's Fun!

at the main meets its been up to 60 people turning up.
most people know each other, or at least another member that can introduce them to the rest. newbies usually make arrangements to meet a member outside the pub so they can be introduced to everyone else.
the pre-planning and post meet chat is always fun. espicially if anything mad has happened.

Of course its fun. Thats why people go!

What interests me is whether Gaireans get more enjoyment about talking about the meet, rather than from the meet themselves. For instance, the Limerick mini meet thread generated 1015 posts here.

No but its fun on a crappy Monday morning to spend a bit of time disecting the saturday night before, its not just Gaire people who do that. Same with the pre planning.

It's always great beforehand to guess which venues Penny will be refused from after 12am!

Well the Limerick meet was great fun. A number of people went to a lot of trouble (and we have LimkMike & Honey to thank for making it extra special) to get there, book hotels etc. It was a great night, full of chat, pints and craic!

Ah Shaggy we have a shared pastime, at least you don't have to drag her up the street home with you, stop at some random chinese for curry and try and manhandle her into a taxi..

well in fairness the limerick meet thread was still going 2 weeks after the event where the thread had evolved into a chat thread among the participants of that particular meet.

In answet to the original question, I love talking and pre-planning and going on line on the day of the meet and checking who will be there etc, but I also equally like teh actual meets, they are fun...post mortems I am normally too hungover to do

I agree, Ju. I'm normally fine for the post mortem as I never check in on Sundays. Why would I?! At that stage my qwerty keyboard has become a qqwweerrttyy keyboard!!

Monday is a great day. Especially with the man Butters attendees list. The pre-part is also good fun. In conclusion, all associated with the meet, from pre-mortem to mortem to post-mortem, is totally excellent, and very exciting.

As a relative newbie, a lot of what start off as interesting threads seem to end up becoming a chat forum for non related topics, or degenerate into a few guys slagging each other.
